Janet Keenan (1932-1997) moved to Washington, DC, in 1967. She was an active member of All Souls Church, Unitarian and served on several Boards there including as President of the All Souls Housing Corporation and as a member of the Change/All Souls Housing Board.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Janet worked for the District government as the Executive Assistant to former Council Member, Hilda Mason. She was also involved in many other community activities.
After her death, friends and family members decided to form the Janet Keenan Housing Corporation to continue to carry on her mission.
In 2000, the JKHC formed and actively works to provide low in come housing in Washington, DC. The organization purchased a group house in the city and they are able to provide SRO housing for people who meet the legal requirements of low and very low income.
